Aden (Yemen), Sunday, 4th July, 1954. After crossing the Arabian Sea from Bombay (Mumbai) we departed Aden just five hours after arriving. The smell of oil was heavy in the air. Four days later we arrived at Suez. The transit of the Suez Canal was stunning. Except for the water in the Suez Canal, everywhere else was a 'desert sea' of sand. We docked at Port Said, Thursday, 8th July, 1954. There were military concerns at that time. Four hours later we were headed for Marsailles, France. (Family photo: C. Milligan)

10th July, 1954 - on the Mediterranean Sea. The Children's Fancy Dress Contest followed by a Children's Tea Party. That's me second from left. I didn't win but, the Celebration Cake, Ice Cream, Fresh Fruit, and the Creams and Jellies at the Tea, more than made up for any disappointment I may have had! - (Family photo: C. Milligan)

'Old Stromboli' in the Tyrrhhenian Sea not far from the 'toe' of Italy and the Straits of Messina, Sicily. In early 1954 it started to rumble and sputter again. By July Capt. Peter decided to steam by the volcano to give his passengers a special front row seat at the event. (Family Photo: C. Milligan)

Tilbury, Saturday, 17th July 1954 -- north shore of the Thames River, directly opposite Gravesend on the south shore. I did not know that 277 years earlier another great sea adventure departed this very spot for Hudson Bay. In 1954 my sister and I were just excited to see our grandparents for the first time in six years. -- (Family Photo: C. Milligan)
